The United States and the European Union have confirmed that talks regarding poker online gaming such as sports betting and poker online have officially resumed at the casino online . US trade representative Ron Kirk met with his EU counterpart Catherine Ashton to discuss trade issues among the US and the EU and Online Gaming was one of the hot issues on the table. Heard through the grapevine, one of the major topics of debate was the loss of revenue suffered by European gaming sites due to the 2006 UIGEA passed by the bush administration. As a result the EU has recently filed claims against the US that such a law is unconstitutional (by whose constituion?) and that under WTO agreements, the US is in violation for the law. For US and EU poker players alike, this is a good sign. The sign is that the New Obama administration is taking serious the accusations and is looking to come to some sort of agreement on what to do about the regulation of online gaming. However, while negotiations are ongoing, no clear resolution has been confirmed at the moment as the talks just recently resumed. Meanwhile, both poker rooms and poker players alike will wait anxiously in anticipation for Barney Frank’s new legislation to overturn the UIGEA to be heard in the House. We’ll keep you posted on any new happenings as the events unfold and become clearer.
