Choosing to do a body cleansing and detoxification program several times a year is one of the wisest health care choices we can make. Detoxifying our body has never been more necessary than the last twenty years. There is an unprecedented and appalling number of toxins in our environment and in our food.
A monthly body detox, in and of itself, is usually not enough to clean our body of toxins, especially if our regular eating and living routines are less than ideal. Hence one of the second most beneficial health care choices we can make is to implement some new good habits into everyday life. There are hundreds of good habits you can select, one of which is increase the fresh fruit to your diet. Fruits are a natural body cleanser, especially the acid fruits, such as lemons, limes, grapefruit, pineapple. If you get into the habit of eating 2 or 3 pieces of fruit every day, you will promote a gentle, unobtrusive cleansing program for yourself.
Here are some rules of thumb for finding the best gain from eating fruit:
The best time to eat fruit is in the morning on an empty stomach with no other foods that don’t break down quickly in the digestive tract. (Yogurt and soaked nuts are typically OK with fruit). Another good time to eat fruit is as a snack in the mid or late afternoon. Opt for a low glycemic fruit like apple if blood glucose can be a problem. With fruit, more is not necessarily better. Fruit carries natural sugars and too much at once can shoot up your blood glucose levels just like a candy bar.
